The building's crown has been described as, "a summit meeting of large gargoyles that are supported by a series of sharply angled Art Deco battlements." In addition to gargoyles, the base of the building has an attractive decorative band above the second floor.
580 Fifth was built in 1928. The developer (Max J. Kramer) also built 1 West 47th Street (in 1925), which became an annex to this building. The architects, Warren & Wetmore, were best known for their designs of Grand Central Terminal
